I have over 32 years of combined professional nursing experience as an ICU nurse and an acute care NP. I started my LNC business in January 2022 and am currently teaching acute care NP students. I find that the role of an educator is complementary to my LNC role as it keeps me updated on current guidelines and provides an opportunity to give back to the next generation of nurses while growing my LNC business.

Welcome to our guest today, Dr. Monica Sanford, DNP, AG-ACNP,  the president of the Northwest Florida NP network in  Pensacola, Florida. Today’s episode, How one nurse with a passion for cardiac nursing used her influence in public policy.
Dr. Monica Sanford is an acute care nurse practitioner, specializing in cardiology. She is the only NP to serve on the National American Board of Cardiology Critical Care Cardiology Leadership committee. She is also the host of the Monica Sanford show on Spotify. A brief bio:
BSN from Johns Hopkins University: went right into critical care cardiology ICU, CVICU, Cath Lab, ER, MSN-AG- Acute Care NP from Georgetown University: Inpatient Cardiology and PRN Hospitalist DNP- (D/t Graduate 5/2023) from Vanderbilt University: Pivoting to Full time academia & health policy. BSBA- business administration from Hawaii Pacific University. Adjunct Faculty at University of West FL in the NP program. Volunteer at our local Free Clinic and see all the Cardiac patients. Served on the FL Chapter American College of Cardiology Board and the Legislative Affairs Committee. The only NP to serve on the National American College of Cardiology Critical Care Cardiology Leadership Committee. Serve on the Membership Leadership Development Committee with American College of Cardiology. Gubernatorial Appointed to the Pediatric Congenital Technical Advisory Panel. Multiple presentations at State and national levels for cardiology or health policy. Married to a Marine Lt Colonel for 33yrs, 2 children. My son has severe congenital heart disease and why I do what I do! My daughter is my little mini-me; very driven, leader, from elementary teacher to now an attorney.

Welcome to our guest today, Dr. Peggy Gleason, RN, NHD,  the owner and founder of Professional Women’s Wellness in Raleigh, North Carolina. Today’s episode, How One Nurse With A Passion For The Whole Person Lead To A Career In Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Peggy Gleason has been a Registered Nurse for over 40 years. Born in the suburbs of New York City in the small town of Nyack. Her family was large with several relatives with serious illnesses. It seemed to be the norm for her parents to spend any extra time caring for them.
It seemed organic that she was drawn to become a nurse. Her nursing career was focused on critical care nursing in Cardio Thoracic ICU and Neonatal ICU where she managed Neonatal ICU in a major medical center in NY.
She was always curious about other methods of healing encompassing all dimensions of wellbeing.
While raising her 3 wonderful children, she continued school to learn about alternative and complimentary modalities in health care. She earned her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Natural Health in 1996 when she founded Nature One health Organization.  
Peggy also trained at Duke Integrative Medicine where she earned her certification as a Professional Integrative Health Coach as well as a certification, She also is certified Nutrition Coach and certified Facilitator of the Wellness Inventory.
The passion to work with the “whole person” along with her clinical experience helped her empower her clients to move forward in their commitment to lifestyle changes - physically, mentally and spiritually, bringing them together in balance for total health.
With her understanding of all the dimensions of health, life and wellbeing, she realized the need for those that struggle with the damaging health effects of obesity physically and mentally. She is dedicated to help those who struggle to master their mindset so that they can make healthy choices and feel good about themselves.
With her grown children, grandchildren and loving husband Ed, Peggy couldn’t ask for more. She is living her vision of making a difference in the health of others.

My husband, at the time, was an alcoholic, and after 15 years of marriage, we were divorced, mainly as a result of alcoholism. After we divorced I realized I needed to do something to support myself and my kids so I went to nursing school and that's how I landed where I am today. I had always had an interest in critical care and knew that was where I wanted to practice. I gravitated toward the cardiac ICU and spent quite a few years there. During Covid, I started to do some agency nursing and worked at different hospitals on the east coast. I became burned out and decided I needed something that gave me some personal fulfillment, so I decided to start writing again.

I am Corinthia Loblack, the Bellyfat Shrink. I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of the Virgin Islands and a Master’s Degree in Nursing from Florida International University. I have been certified as a Health and Lifestyle Coach and have spent more than two decades taking care of patients with diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure within the hospital, home and endocrinology practice. I became frustrated as I watched how diet and exercise always seem to let my patients down. Then I was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, and my doctor recommended diet and exercise. I spent years beating myself up for failing when it came to food and exercise. All I wanted was someone to tell me how to stop failing and guide me through the mindset and habits I needed to lose weight and keep it off. I created Heart Health Management so that I can support and guide nurses and other health care professionals on the wonderful journey of self-discovery and self-love.

Dr. Carolyn Shiffman brings over 25 years of executive leadership experience in corporate, higher education, and healthcare settings, working with for-profit and non-profit institutions. As a certified coach, she excels in supporting and empowering business owners, entrepreneurs, independent consultants, and leaders with a focus on helping them achieve personal and professional success. As a nurse educator, Dr. Shiffman trained and provided educational workshops throughout the Midwest to healthcare professionals during her years as a nurse educator. Her experience in higher education includes both administrative and teaching roles, emphasizing new ventures and startups. As an executive for an educational consulting company, IPD, she was a regional vice president. She served as liaison and consultant to college staff for enrollment policies, admission requirements, faculty assessment, and curriculum development. Her territory was the east coast, where she oversaw five contracts with nine cost centers. Dr. Shiffman’s academic experience spans the role of educator and administrator. She served as Vice President of New Dimensions at Albertus Magnus College, which offered undergraduate and graduate business courses. As the director of the Bachelor of Science in Health Science at Sacred Heart University, she was responsible for the program’s startup and taught healthcare leadership courses. At Post University, she was the director of the Graduate Business programs, where along with her administrative position, she taught leadership courses. Throughout her career, Carolyn has been known for her creativity, innovation and strategic planning, and collaborative leadership. Dr. Shiffman holds a Ph.D. in Organization and Management from Capella University, a Master’s of Nursing Administration from the University of Phoenix, and a B.S. in Nursing from Baylor University. Dr. Shiffman’s volunteer experiences include: Director of the Year for the Orange Chamber of Commerce Dress for Success; Annual Gala Event Program Director for Connecticut Chapter ICF Dr. Shiffman enjoys walking, yoga, and aqua-fit classes. She has been married for 42 years. She has two children and four grandchildren.
